Are you one of the millions of people who live with chronic pain? If you have lived
with this pain for over a year, you’re not alone. Over 60% of adults in America live with lower back or neck pain, severe headaches or migraines and are constantly looking for ways to eliminate the constant discomfort. Many of these people turn to their primary care physicians who follow traditional medicine practices by issuing a prescription medicine of non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs, opiods or triptans for headaches. While these medicines can work, many times they are a band-aid for an underlying problem that will continue to cause discomfort.
While these medicines may bring relief, they aren’t the only option available for pain relief. Studies have shown that chiropractic care, paired with exercise can help treat the cause of the pain and allow the body to heal. A study conducted in the journal Spine compared the effectiveness of the two methods of treatment and see which had the best results. Once the comparison was completed, it was found that a staggering 94% of the patients that received chiropractic care had a significant decrease in lower back pain after 4-weeks of care. On the opposite end of treatment where patients sought out traditional medical care, only 56% of the patients were able to achieve the same level of pain relief.
When you see these kinds of results, you can’t help but wonder why people don’t think of turning to chiropractic manipulation to begin with. Fact of the matter is that many people are skeptical of this method of treatment and don’t believe that it can help them be in less pain or even pain free for that matter. At one point in my life, I can say that I was one of them. With a little research and education, those that suffer from chronic pain can learn that chiropractic manipulation can help those suffering from Carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain, headaches, arthritis and even fibromyalgia. These adjustments allow the body to self-heal through stress relief and promoting DNA repair in deep muscle tissue.
If you’re still on the fence of whether or not to get chiropractic treatment for your pain instead of traditional pharmaceuticals, here is a little food for thought. Chiropractic adjustment is an option to allow your body to heal itself naturally without putting yourself at risk of potentially dangerous side effects from some medicines. Depending on what types of medicine your physician puts you on to help relieve your pain, here are a few of the possible risks.
- Hormonal imbalances
- Constipation or other digestive problems
- Weakened immune systems
- Liver toxicity
- Drug abuse or dependence.
